About University of Hyderabad

The University of Hyderabad (UoH), popularly known as Hyderabad Central University (HCU), is a prestigious public central research university located in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established in 1974 by an Act of Parliament as part of the Six-Point Formula of 1973 to address regional educational disparities, it has grown into one of India's most distinguished academic institutions. UoH was officially recognized as an Institution of Eminence (IoE) by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on February 17, 2020, entitling it to enhanced autonomy and government funding to develop into a world-class teaching and research university. Spanning a breathtaking 2,300-acre campus in Gachibowli, UoH is the second largest campus among all central universities in India, after Banaras Hindu University. The campus is a certified green zone, home to 734 plant species, 220 bird species, 15 reptile species, and 10 mammal species including spotted deer, peacocks, and wild boar. Two perennial and three seasonal lakes, along with ancient Deccan rock formations and a protected megalithic heritage site, make it one of the most ecologically rich university campuses in the world. The university operates through 12 Schools of Study and over 40 departments offering more than 150 programs spanning postgraduate, integrated undergraduate-postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma levels. Key schools include the School of Physics, School of Chemistry, School of Life Sciences, School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS), School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Economics, School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, School of Management Studies, School of Medical Sciences, and School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST). With over 5,322 students and 400+ faculty members, about 90% of UoH students are residential, fostering a close-knit academic community. UoH is primarily a postgraduate research university with highly competitive admissions through national exams like CUET-PG, CAT, NIMCET, GATE, and JEE Main. The university uses a continuous assessment model, awarding 40% marks through internal assessments and 60% through semester-end examinations, with grades on a 10.0-point scale. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Library, inaugurated in 1988, is the first fully automated university library in India with over 4 lakh print resources, 500 print journals, and 25,000+ e-resources. Admission Process

Admissions at UoH are entirely entrance-based. For Integrated MA/MSc programs (5-year), candidates must qualify CUET-UG. For BTech+MTech Integrated programs, admission is through JEE Main followed by JoSAA counselling. For PG programs (MA, MSc, MFA, MPA, MPH), candidates must qualify CUET-PG. MBA admissions require a valid CAT score. MCA admissions are based on NIMCET score. MTech admissions are through GATE scores via CCMT counselling. For PhD programs, candidates need UGC-NET/CSIR-NET qualification or must clear UoH's own entrance test, followed by an interview. Applications are accepted online via the official academic portal at acad.uohyd.ac.in. A merit list is published on the portal and eligible candidates are invited for counselling or document verification at the campus. The university follows UGC reservation norms for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD categories in all admissions.

Cutoffs

Cut-offs are based on CUET-PG, CUET-UG, CAT, GATE, NIMCET, and JEE Main scores. Category-wise and course-wise merit lists are released on the official admission portal (acad.uohyd.ac.in). There is no fixed cut-off published in advance; selection is merit-based through counselling rounds. For SCIS MTech, GATE score of 600+ is generally required. For MBA, CAT percentile of 70+ is typically expected. For MA/MSc, CUET PG scores determine merit. PhD admissions depend on NET/CSIR scores and interview performance.
