Established in 1976 and declared an Institute of National Importance in 1980 by an Act of Parliament, SCTIMST was envisioned as a unique amalgamation of medical sciences and technology. The institute is named after the late Maharajah of Travancore, Sree Chitra Tirunal Balarama Varma, who gifted the initial building. It consists of three main wings: the Hospital Wing, the Biomedical Technology Wing (located at Poojappura), and the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS). This tri-partite structure allows the institute to lead the nation in specialized patient care, medical device development, and public health research. The Hospital Wing is a 253-bed super-specialty center exclusively dedicated to tertiary care in Cardiovascular and Neurological diseases. Admission Process

Admissions to DM, M.Ch, and MD (Transfusion Medicine) are through the INI-SS and INI-CET national-level entrance exams.
