Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Smarak Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital, popularly recognized as Government Medical College Handia, is a premier state-managed institution imparting comprehensive medical education in the traditional domain of Ayurveda. Located in Handia, Prayagraj, along the Prayagraj-Varanasi National Highway (NH-2), the institute was established on December 13, 1964, when its foundation stone was laid down by the former Prime Minister of India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, as Gandhi Ayurveda University. The institution was subsequently provincialized on July 2, 1982. Historically affiliated with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University and Prof. Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University over different timelines, the institute is officially affiliated with Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, Gorakhpur, and functions under the approval of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). The campus incorporates specialized learning departments, including Samhita, Rachana Sharir, Kriya Sharir, Dravyaguna, and Panchkarma, establishing a strong pedagogical structure. Equipped with fully operational outpatient and inpatient healthcare operations, it offers an outstanding interface for clinical exposure. The library maintains a vast inventory of ancient classical texts, manuscripts, and contemporary journals that foster research activities. Its strategic geographical position, approximately 40 kilometers east of Prayagraj city and 90 kilometers west of Varanasi city, ensures that the hospital addresses a significant patient demographic footprint from adjacent rural and semi-urban localities. By maintaining strict academic criteria and modern clinical methodologies, the institution remains a cornerstone for preserving, upgrading, and implementing indigenous Indian medical sciences.Top Recruiters & Placements
