About SHILLONG POLYTECHNIC

Shillong Polytechnic, established in October 1965, stands as the premier government technical institution in the state of Meghalaya, North East India. Located on the serene outskirts of Shillong at Mawlai Kynton Massar, the institute is bordered by rolling hills and is situated approximately one kilometer from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), fostering a rich academic environment. Originally founded under the composite State of Assam, it began its journey with a single course in Civil Engineering and a small intake of 60 students. Following the bifurcation of Assam in 1972, the institute transitioned to the administrative control of the Government of Meghalaya. Today, it operates under the academic aegis of the Meghalaya State Council for Technical Education (MSCTE) and is fully approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institution's primary mission is to produce high-quality technicians at the supervisory level to meet the growing demand for technical manpower in various developmental sectors. Over the decades, Shillong Polytechnic has significantly expanded its academic portfolio to include six major diploma streams: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Computer Science, and Information Technology. The campus is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a central library housing over 30,000 volumes, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a computer center with over 300 workstations. With a strong emphasis on practical training and industry readiness, the polytechnic remains a cornerstone of technical education in Meghalaya, consistently striving for excellence through capacity expansion and quality enhancement programs.
