Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is a premier Institution of National Importance established by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, through an Act of Parliament in 2007. The institute formally commenced operations in July 2008 and is located at Jais, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. Spread across a 47-acre rural campus, RGIPT has been accorded a governance structure analogous to that of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), making it one of the most prestigious engineering institutions in India. RGIPT is uniquely co-promoted by six leading oil Public Sector Undertakings — Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil India Limited (OIL), GAIL (India) Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) — in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). From the 2025 batch onwards, select B.Tech students will complete their first three years at the main campus in Jais, Amethi, and spend their final year at the Energy Institute, Bengaluru (EIB), a dedicated centre of RGIPT located in Karnataka. Admission Process

B.Tech: Admission is based on JEE Advanced (primary) or JEE Mains rank (secondary, for vacant seats). Candidates must have at least 60% aggregate in Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Counselling is conducted through JoSAA. RGIPT also conducts its own independent admission rounds. M.Tech: Admission is based on GATE score, Past Academic Performance, Written Test, and Personal Interview (as declared by respective departments). Minimum eligibility is a B.Tech/B.E. degree in relevant discipline with 60% aggregate. MBA: Admission requires a valid score in CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT with minimum 60% in graduation. Final selection is through Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). Work experience is desirable. Ph.D: Admission is based on GATE/NET/CAT/GRE/NBHM/DBT/GPAT or equivalent fellowship, followed by Written Test, Presentation and/or Interview. Minimum qualification is a Master's degree with 60% marks (or B.Tech with 75% for direct PhD).
