National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal or NITW) is a premier public technical and research university located in Hanamkonda, Warangal, Telangana, India. Established on October 10, 1959, by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, it was the first in the chain of 31 Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) across India. Originally known as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Warangal, the institute was elevated to the status of a National Institute of Technology in 2002 and was conferred the prestigious status of 'Institute of National Importance' by the Government of India under the NIT Act, 2007. The institute is approved by UGC and AICTE, and is accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC. Spread across a sprawling 248-acre fully residential and Wi-Fi-enabled campus on either side of the Hyderabad-Warangal Highway, NIT Warangal is home to over 7,000 students, 400 faculty members, and 314 administrative staff.
