National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), popularly known as NITK Surathkal, is one of India's most prestigious public technical universities. Formerly established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) on August 6, 1960, at Srinivasnagar, Surathkal, Mangaluru, the institute was elevated to the status of a Deemed University on June 26, 2002, and subsequently declared an Institute of National Importance on August 15, 2007. Admission Process

B.Tech: Admission is through JEE Main scores, followed by JoSAA Counselling (Indian nationals) and DASA (foreign nationals). Candidates must have scored at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. CSAB Special Round fills remaining seats. M.Tech: Admission is through a valid GATE score, followed by Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT). Self-Financed M.Tech and M.Tech (Research/Sponsored) require a separate written test and interview. MBA: Admission is based on CAT/MAT/CMAT scores, followed by Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). Eligibility is a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks. Total intake is 80 seats. MCA: Admission is through NIMCET scores. Eligibility is BCA/B.Sc with Mathematics/Statistics and at least 60% marks. Note: MCA program discontinued from 2025–26 onward. M.Sc: Admission is through IIT JAM scores, followed by CCMN counselling. Ph.D: Admission is through an institute-level written test and/or interview, with eligibility based on the relevant master's degree and qualifying scores in GATE/CSIR/UGC-NET.
