About MAHARAJA PURNA CHANDRA (AUTONOMOUS) COLLEGE, Odisha

Maharaja Purna Chandra (Autonomous) College, Baripada, is a premier institution of higher learning in Odisha, established in July 1948. Named after the visionary ruler Maharaja Purna Chandra Bhanj Deo of Mayurbhanj, the college has been a beacon of academic excellence for over seven decades. Initially functioning from the premises of MKC High School, it later moved to the Maharaja's Palace and eventually shifted to its current sprawling campus at Takhatpur in 2001. The college was granted autonomous status by the UGC in 1999, allowing it to design its own curriculum and conduct independent examinations, which it has done successfully since the 2001-2002 academic session. The institution offers a wide array of programs across Arts, Science, Commerce, and professional streams. It caters to thousands of students not only from Odisha but also from neighboring states like West Bengal and Jharkhand. With 19 undergraduate departments and several postgraduate departments, the college emphasizes a holistic approach to education. The campus is equipped with modern facilities, including a digitized central library, high-tech science laboratories, and a dedicated placement cell. Despite its focus on traditional academic rigor, the college has adapted to modern needs by introducing self-financing courses like BCA, BBA, and Integrated B.Ed. programs. The college remains committed to the socio-economic development of the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district by providing quality, affordable education to the marginalized sections of society, evidenced by its consistent NAAC 'B++' accreditation and its role as a lead college in the region.
