Maa Manikeswari University (formerly known as Kalahandi University) is a premier state public university located in Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters of Kalahandi, Odisha. Established on September 1, 2020, by upgrading the Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna, it was later renamed in honor of the presiding deity of the region, Maa Manikeswari, in December 2023. The institution has a rich legacy dating back to 1960 when it started as Kalahandi Science College. Spread across a lush 96-acre urban campus, the university serves as a vital hub for higher education in the KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) region, aiming to provide quality education and foster research in tribal-dominated areas.
