The rich history of this institute stretches back to 1962, when its foundational stone was laid by the highly distinguished industrialist Late Shri Sudhir Kumar Sen, famously known as the founder of the Raleigh Cycle manufacturing entity. Originally established to impart vital technical training to youths in the locality, it began operational workflows on July 16, 1965, under the moniker of Sudhir Sen Polytechnic. Recognising its long-term educational impact, the Government of West Bengal officially took control of the institution on May 17, 1979, re-establishing it permanently as Kanyapur Polytechnic. Over the subsequent decades, the college has solidified its legacy as a key destination for diploma-level technical education in the state.
