About INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), located in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, is a premier autonomous institution under the Department of Space, Government of India. Established in 2007, it holds the distinction of being Asia's first university dedicated exclusively to the study and research of outer space. IIST was inaugurated by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair and has been nurtured by luminaries like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who served as its first Chancellor. The institute's primary mandate is to create high-quality human resources for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It offers a unique environment where academics are seamlessly integrated with high-end research and development, providing students with direct access to ISRO's state-of-the-art laboratories and flight projects. The campus is a fully residential, eco-friendly facility nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri range, offering a serene atmosphere conducive to rigorous scientific inquiry. With a faculty-to-student ratio that is among the best in the country, IIST focuses on specialized areas such as Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Astronomy, and Earth System Sciences. The institute follows a merit-based admission process through JEE Advanced and GATE, attracting the brightest minds from across India. Its curriculum is regularly updated to align with the National Education Policy 2020 and the evolving needs of the global space industry, ensuring that its graduates are well-equipped for careers in both national space programs and international aerospace giants.Admission Process
Admission to B.Tech programmes is based strictly on the JEE Advanced rank list. Candidates must register on the IIST Online Admission portal. For M.Tech/M.Sc, a valid GATE score is required, followed by interviews for certain streams. PhD admissions are conducted twice a year based on NET/JRF/GATE scores and written tests.Cutoffs
