Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kalyani (IIIT Kalyani) is a premier public technical institution and an Institute of National Importance (INI) located in Kalyani, Nadia district, West Bengal. Established on 21 May 2014 under the Not-for-Profit Public-Private Partnership (N-PPP) model, the institute was set up through a tripartite agreement between the Ministry of Education (Government of India), the Government of West Bengal, and industry partners — Coal India Limited and Rolta Foundation — in a funding ratio of 50:35:15 respectively. It is one of the 31 IIITs established by the Government of India to advance high-quality technical education and research in Information Technology and related engineering disciplines. IIIT Kalyani received the statutory status of Institute of National Importance in March 2017 under the IIIT Act passed by the Parliament of India, making it one of the few technical institutions in Eastern India to hold this prestigious designation. The institute has also been recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, underscoring its commitment to research and innovation. The institute currently operates from a temporary campus at Webel IT Park, near Buddha Park, Kalyani – 741235. The Government of West Bengal has allotted 50 acres of land for the construction of a permanent campus, which is currently underway. Despite operating from a temporary campus, IIIT Kalyani has built robust academic infrastructure including smart classrooms equipped with video conferencing, modern computer and electronics laboratories, a well-stocked central library, hostels for boys and girls, a cafeteria, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and 24×7 Wi-Fi connectivity across campus. Academically, IIIT Kalyani offers a comprehensive range of programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. At the UG level, B.Tech programmes are offered in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), CSE with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, and CSE with specialisation in Cyber Security. At the PG level, M.Tech programmes are available in Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and VLSI & Embedded Systems. The institute also offers Executive M.Tech programmes for working professionals in AI & Data Science and Advanced Communication Systems. Ph.D. programmes are available in CSE, ECE, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Admissions to the B.Tech programme are conducted through JEE Main followed by JoSAA/CSAB counselling. B.Tech: Admission is through JEE Main (held in January and April sessions). Eligible candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects with a minimum of 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST candidates). Seat allotment is through JoSAA counselling followed by CSAB Special Rounds for unfilled seats. M.Tech (Regular): Admission is based on a valid GATE score. Seats are allotted through CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan) counselling. Eligibility: B.Tech/B.E. in a relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA. The institute also conducts an institute-level entrance test for candidates without GATE scores, for remaining seats. Executive M.Tech: Candidates with a valid B.Tech/B.E. in ECE/CS/IT/EE or related disciplines, MCA, or MSc/MS in relevant disciplines with at least 60% aggregate are eligible. No age limit. Admission is through an institute-level admission test. Ph.D: Candidates must hold a postgraduate degree (M.Tech/M.E./M.Sc./MCA/MA) with a minimum of 50% aggregate.
