Established in 1961 with the assistance of FAO/UNDP, it came under the administrative control of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 1979. Recognizing its pivotal role in human resource development, it was conferred the status of Deemed-to-be-University in 1989, making it the first Fisheries University in India. CIFE operates from its state-of-the-art campus in Versova, Mumbai, and maintains regional centers in Rohtak, Kolkata, Kakinada, and Motihari. Admission Process

Admission to M.F.Sc. programs is strictly through the ICAR All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA-PG). For Ph.D. programs, candidates must clear the ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) exam. Candidates are called for counseling based on their rank and can choose their specialization at CIFE Mumbai according to seat availability.
