The college was founded by the State Government of Himachal Pradesh to cater to the growing demand for skilled technical professionals in the region. Spread over a sprawling 52.5 bighas of land near the banks of the Ravi River, the campus offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern academic infrastructure. The institute initially began with two trades and has since expanded to offer specialized diploma programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and the newly introduced Mechatronics Engineering—making it the first institute in Himachal Pradesh to offer this cutting-edge trade. The academic philosophy of the college centers on 'Excellence through Competence.'
