About GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE, IDUKKI
Government Engineering College, Idukki (GECI), established in 2000, is a premier technical institution located in the high-range district of Idukki, Kerala. Managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Kerala, the college was founded to cater to the technical education needs of students in one of the most geographically challenging yet beautiful parts of the state. The 25-acre campus is situated at Kuyilimala, Painavu, which serves as the administrative headquarters of the district. The institution is approved by the AICTE and affiliated with the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). GECI gained substantial recognition for its academic and infrastructural standards after being selected for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) Phase II, a World Bank-funded project. The college offers five undergraduate B.Tech programs in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology, Electrical & Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering, alongside four specialized M.Tech programs. The academic environment is defined by its highly qualified faculty and well-equipped laboratories, which are continuously upgraded through government grants. One of the primary advantages of GECI is its government-subsidized fee structure, making high-quality engineering education accessible to meritorious students from all socio-economic backgrounds. The campus facilities include digital libraries, dedicated innovation cells (IEDC), and separate hostels that foster a close-knit community of learners. Student life at GECI is vibrant and inclusive, featuring annual technical festivals like 'ADVAY' and various cultural and sports meets. Despite its remote location, the Career Guidance and Placement Cell (CGPC) is exceptionally active, facilitating campus recruitments from top MNCs such as TCS, Infosys, and UST Global. The college also places a strong emphasis on research and societal development, often involving students in E-literacy programs and local engineering solutions for the Idukki region. With its blend of rigorous academics and a serene, focused atmosphere, GEC Idukki continues to be a top choice for engineering aspirants in 2026.Admission Process
For B.Tech, candidates must qualify for the KEAM entrance exam and participate in the CEE Kerala counseling process. M.Tech admissions are primarily based on GATE scores, with non-GATE candidates being considered for remaining seats based on a departmental entrance test. Reserved category students follow the norms set by the Government of Kerala.Cutoffs
