About Government Engineering College, Barmer
Government Engineering College, Barmer (GECB) is a premier technical institution established by the Government of Rajasthan in 2018 to address the growing demand for skilled engineers in the energy-rich Thar Desert region. Situated on National Highway 68, the college is a constituent unit of MBM University, Jodhpur, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The establishment of the college was strategically planned to leverage the industrial growth of Barmer, which has emerged as a significant hub for Petroleum, Natural Gas, Solar, and Wind energy. Funded by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) with an initial grant of 26 Crores, the institution boasts modern laboratory facilities and a dedicated academic environment. The college offers undergraduate Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degrees in seven specialized branches, including a forward-looking program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. GEC Barmer is particularly noted for its focus on Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, sectors that are intrinsic to the local economy. The campus serves as a bridge between academic learning and industrial application, having signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with industry giants like JSW Energy and Vedanta-Cairn Oil & Gas. These partnerships facilitate internships, industrial visits, and practical exposure for students. Despite being a young institution, GEC Barmer has shown remarkable progress in technical competitions, with its students securing top positions in national events like the Smart India Hackathon. The college aims to provide affordable, high-quality technical education to students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they are industry-ready to contribute to the nation's infrastructural and technological advancement.Admission Process
Admissions to the B.Tech programs are conducted through the Rajasthan Engineering Admission Process (REAP). Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject. Priority is given to candidates with valid JEE Main scores, followed by merit-based admission for remaining seats based on 12th standard percentages.Cutoffs
