About DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUMENTATION, COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Instrumentation at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is a premier academic center dedicated to the field of measurement science and industrial automation. Originally established as the University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) in 1978 with UGC support, it evolved into a full-fledged teaching and research department by 1995. The department is recognized for its unique focus on Instrumentation Technology, bridging the gap between pure physics and applied engineering. It offers a specialized B.Tech in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, an M.Tech in Electronic Instrumentation, and an M.Sc in Instrumentation, alongside a robust Ph.D. program. With an intake of 28 students for its B.Tech program, the department ensures a high faculty-to-student ratio, fostering an environment of personalized mentorship and hands-on technical training. The curriculum is designed to cover modern industrial needs, including robotics, pneumatic devices, control valves, and digital logic devices. Beyond academics, the department acts as a service hub for other S&T departments within the university, providing expert instrumentation support. Research is a cornerstone of the department, with significant contributions in applied physics and sensor technology, often funded by national agencies like DST and DAE. Its location on the Thrikkakara campus provides students with access to a vibrant multi-disciplinary atmosphere and proximity to Kochi’s industrial belt, facilitating excellent industry-institute interaction and placement opportunities in sectors like Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, and Automobile manufacturing.Admission Process
B.Tech admissions are based on CUSAT CAT scores. M.Tech requires a valid GATE score or CUSAT DAT. M.Sc and Ph.D. admissions are through CUSAT CAT/DAT followed by interviews.Cutoffs
