About DEPARTMENT OF FUTURES STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF KERALA

The Department of Futures Studies at the University of Kerala, established in 1990, is a premier interdisciplinary center dedicated to teaching and research in the fields of technology management, forecasting, and system modeling. As one of the few departments of its kind in India, it has gained international recognition for its unique focus on anticipating future technological trends and their socio-economic impacts. The department achieved a milestone by introducing the first M.Tech. program in Technology Management in India, a course that remains highly sought after by engineering graduates seeking to move into leadership and strategic planning roles. The academic environment is characterized by a strong emphasis on mathematical modeling, discrete mathematics, and computational sciences. In recent years, the department has expanded its horizon to include specialized programs like M.Sc. in Data Science and P.G. Diploma in Knowledge Management, addressing the growing global demand for data-driven decision-making. Beyond classroom teaching, the department is a hub for consultancy through its dedicated wing, C-Graf. This wing has successfully executed projects for prestigious international organizations, including the World Bank, the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation, and various central and state government departments. The department also maintains vibrant exchange programs with global institutions like the University of Maribor, Slovenia, and Erasmus University, Netherlands. With a commitment to fostering innovation, the Department of Futures Studies prepares students to become 'knowledge workers' capable of navigating the complexities of a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy.
