COEP Technological University (College of Engineering Pune)
About COEP Technological University (College of Engineering Pune)
COEP Technological University, popularly known as COEP Pune, is one of India's most prestigious and historic engineering institutions. Founded in July 1854 as the 'Poona Engineering and Mechanical School,' it holds the distinction of being the third oldest engineering college in Asia, after the College of Engineering Guindy (1794) and IIT Roorkee (1847). Originally established to train Public Works Department (PWD) officers of British India, COEP has evolved over 170 years into a full-fledged Technological University under the Government of Maharashtra. In March 2022, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly passed the COEP Technological University Act, conferring unitary state university status upon the institution—a landmark moment in its storied history. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and holds accreditation from NAAC and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Located on a sprawling 47-acre campus along the banks of the Mula River in Shivajinagar, Pune, COEP Tech is divided into North and South campuses. The campus seamlessly blends its iconic 1854 heritage main building—a listed heritage structure—with modern academic infrastructure including smart classrooms, advanced research labs, a well-stocked central library, and the renowned Bhau Institute of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership, which serves as COEP's incubation and startup hub. The university offers a comprehensive range of programs at the undergraduate (B.Tech, B.Planning), postgraduate (M.Tech, MBA, M.Planning, PG Diploma), and doctoral (Ph.D.) levels across more than 49 courses in Engineering, Management, Planning, and Applied Sciences. COEP's flagship B.Tech program spans 12 disciplines including Computer Engineering, AI & Machine Learning, Robotics & AI, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Instrumentation & Control, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, and Chemical Engineering. In the NIRF 2024 rankings, COEP was ranked 77th in the Engineering category and within the 101-150 band in the overall category. Outlook India has ranked it 12th among government engineering colleges. COEP consistently features in top 30 engineering colleges of India as per IIRF rankings. The university's Training and Placement Cell facilitates robust campus recruitment. In 2025 (NIRF 2026 data), 633 out of 784 eligible B.Tech students were placed, with the highest package reaching ₹52.57 LPA. Top recruiters include Google, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, DE Shaw, Nvidia, Mastercard, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Deloitte, and many more. The vibrant student life at COEP is marked by Mindspark—one of India's premier student-run technical festivals—active student clubs, sports teams, an on-campus boat club, and a rich culture of innovation and entrepreneurship that has produced notable alumni across industry, academia, and startups globally.Admission Process
