About BIJU PATTANAIK FILM & TELEVISION INSTITUTE OF ORISSA, Odisha

The Biju Pattanaik Film & Television Institute of Odisha (BPFTIO), Cuttack, is a premier government-run autonomous institute dedicated to technical excellence in cinematic arts. Established in 1998 under a World Bank-assisted scheme, the institute was envisioned to address the growing demand for skilled technical professionals in the television and film industries. Strategically located on the banks of the Mahanadi River within the historic Bhubanananda Odisha School of Engineering (BOSE) campus, BPFTIO provides a serene yet technologically advanced environment for aspiring filmmakers. The institute initially gained prominence for its three-year diploma programs, but in 2021, in response to evolving industry standards, it transitioned these into comprehensive 4-year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree programs in Cinematic Art and Technology. These specializations—Cinematography, Sound Recording & Sound Design, and Film Editing—are designed to offer a blend of rigorous theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training. Students have access to some of the most sophisticated re-recording and editing studios in Eastern India. BPFTIO operates under the administrative control of the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha. Its pedagogy emphasizes creative expression supported by technical mastery, often involving collaborative projects that mimic real-world production environments. With a mission to produce industry-ready graduates, the institute maintains a strong alumni network that spans across the Ollywood and Bollywood industries, as well as various national and regional broadcasting channels. The campus fosters a creative ambiance, complete with residential facilities and modern amenities, ensuring a holistic development of its students.
