Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE Bhagalpur) is one of the oldest, most reputed, and prestigious government engineering institutions in the state of Bihar, India. Established in 1960 by the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Government of Bihar, the college has been a pillar of technical education in the region for over six decades. It is located at P.O. Sabour, Bhagalpur — on the picturesque banks of the river Ganga, adjacent to NH-80 and in close proximity to IIIT Bhagalpur, creating a vibrant academic ecosystem in the Sabour campus area. The institute operates under the motto 'योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्' — meaning 'Excellence in work is yoga' — and is fully funded and administered by the Government of Bihar. BCE Bhagalpur is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and currently affiliated to Bihar Engineering University (BEU), Patna (since March 2023). The college was previously affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Patna, and before that to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU). The college offers undergraduate B.Tech programs in five core engineering disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Civil Engineering (CE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME), with a total sanctioned UG intake of approximately 360 seats. Lateral entry B.Tech programs are also available across all five branches. At the postgraduate level, BCE offers M.Tech programs (introduced/expanded in 2019 onwards) in Micro Electronics and VLSI Technology, Power System, Manufacturing Technology/Machine Design, and Thermal Engineering, with admissions through GATE scores via Bihar PGEAC counselling. The campus spans approximately 114 acres and is equipped with a centralized computer center featuring 250+ computers, a campus-wide optical fiber LAN network with 95+ Wi-Fi access points, a central digital library, well-equipped departmental laboratories (including CAD/CAM, VLSI design, electronics, and power systems labs), boys and girls hostels, a sports complex, medical facilities, guest house, bank, ATM, post office, canteen, auditorium, and seminar halls. The college also has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that conducts workshops, mock interviews, and career counselling sessions. BCE Bhagalpur has an impressive alumni network of 3,000+ registered alumni working across top Indian and multinational corporations including TCS, Infosys, Qualcomm, Accenture, Capgemini, NTPC, and PGCIL, among others. In 2023, 181 students were placed with a highest package of ₹13 LPA and average of ₹5.4 LPA; by 2024, placements grew to 341 students. Admission is based on JEE Main scores through Bihar UGEAC (Undergraduate Engineering Admission Counselling) conducted by BCECEB. Candidates register on the BCECEB portal, participate in choice filling, and are allotted seats based on JEE Main rank, category, and branch preference. For B.Tech Lateral Entry: Candidates must have passed a Diploma in Engineering (from AICTE approved institution) in the appropriate branch, or passed 12th Standard with Mathematics along with a B.Sc degree from a recognized university.
