About Army Institute of Management Kolkata
The Army Institute of Management, Kolkata (AIMK), formerly known as the National Institute of Management Calcutta (NIMC), is a premier graduate business school located in New Town, Rajarhat, Kolkata, West Bengal. Established on 28 July 1997 by the Indian Army under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi, AIMK was founded with a vision to provide world-class management education primarily to wards of Army personnel, while also offering 20% of its seats to general and civilian candidates. The institute was renamed from NIMC to Army Institute of Management Kolkata on 11 February 2005. Spanning a lush, eco-friendly campus of 9.25 acres in Action Area III, New Town — opposite Uniworld Downtown Mall — AIMK is strategically located in one of Kolkata's most rapidly developing urban hubs, close to IT corridors, SEZs, and major industries, giving students excellent access to the corporate world. The institute's flagship offering is a two-year, full-time, residential MBA programme with an intake of 120 students per batch. The programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT). AIMK is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A++ grade and is certified under ISO 9001:2015, reflecting its unwavering commitment to academic quality and institutional governance. Students can pursue dual specialisations (major and minor) from five streams: Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Business Analytics, and Operations & Systems Management — equipping graduates with a multi-disciplinary edge in an increasingly complex business environment. AIMK has been consistently ranked among the top private B-Schools in India. It was ranked 63rd among private B-Schools nationally by IIRF in 2025 and 51st in 2024. Business India has placed AIMK in the prestigious 'A+++' category in its annual B-School Survey. The institute has also received the 'B-School Leadership Award' for three consecutive years (2014, 2016, 2017) by DNA & Stars of the Industry Group, the 'Best B-School' award for 2015 and 2016 at the Dewang Mehta National Education Awards, the 'Golden Peacock National Training Award' in 2014, and the 'Best Academic and Industry Interface' recognition at the World Education Congress Global Awards 2016. Placements at AIMK are a major highlight, with success rates close to 100% every year. The 2023–25 batch recorded a highest CTC of ₹19 LPA and an average CTC of approximately ₹8.05 LPA. Over 133 companies participated in the placement drive for that batch, including marquee recruiters from FMCG, BFSI, IT, consulting, retail, and manufacturing sectors. AIMK has cumulatively placed over 2,000 students in top companies since inception. The institute's residential model fosters discipline, camaraderie, and holistic personality development. Students benefit from a rigorous academic curriculum, active industry interface through corporate summits, live projects, case study competitions, and student clubs like the Kuber Finance Club and various vertical-specific associations. Value-added offerings such as advanced Excel training, French language courses, and personality development programmes further sharpen the professional profiles of graduates. AIMK's unique blend of Army ethos, discipline, and management education makes it a distinctive and highly respected institution in India's B-School landscape.Admission Process
Admissions to AIMK's MBA programme are conducted annually through an entrance-based selection process. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks for general candidates, or equivalent for Army/defence category applicants. The primary entrance exam accepted is CAT (Common Admission Test). JEMAT is considered only if seats remain vacant after exhausting the CAT applicant pool; vacancy notifications for JEMAT are released around May/June each year. Final-year degree students are also eligible to apply. The online application form is available at aim.ac.in. Application fee is ₹500 for Army/Air Force/Navy wards and ₹600 for all others. Shortlisted candidates are called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI), typically scheduled in the 3rd week of January. The final merit list is prepared based on: GD-PI scores, CAT percentile, Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks, UG percentage, extracurricular activities, and sports performance. Results are declared within 7 days of the GDPI. A total of 120 seats are available: 90 for Army wards, 24 for General/civilian candidates, 4 for Air Force wards, and 2 for Navy wards.Cutoffs
CAT cutoff for MBA (General Category): 70–80 percentile (expected). Merit list is prepared based on composite scoring of CAT percentile, GD-PI performance, academic records (Class 10, 12, UG), extracurricular activities, and sports performance. There is no fixed minimum CAT cutoff published; selection is holistic.Rankings & Recognition
