Admission to IIT Dharwad is entirely entrance-based. For B.Tech, candidates must qualify JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced, and then participate in JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling for seat allotment. Eligibility requires a minimum 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/PwD) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, or being in the top 20 percentile of their respective board. For the BS-MS (Interdisciplinary Sciences) programme, admission is also through JEE Advanced scores and JoSAA counselling. For M.Tech, candidates must possess a valid GATE score and register on the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) for seat allotment; minimum 60% marks in B.Tech/BE is required. For M.Sc, a valid IIT JAM score is required and admission is through JOAPS (JAM Online Application Processing System) counselling; eligibility is a B.Sc with relevant subjects. For MS (by Research) and Ph.D programmes, candidates must have a valid GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/DST-INSPIRE/JRF score, followed by an institute-level written test and personal interview. For Ph.D, a Master's degree with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) is required. The application fees are: ₹2,900 for B.Tech (General/OBC male), ₹1,450 for female/SC/ST/PwD; ₹1,500 for M.Sc (General/OBC); ₹300 for M.Tech/Ph.D (General/OBC), and ₹150 for SC/ST/PwD.
